A 7-Day Beginner Typing Practice Plan
A simple week of short, real sessions using our Early Explorers lessons (ages 4-6) — about 10-15 minutes a day. Older beginners can follow the same order using Skill Builders instead, which covers the same keyboard fundamentals at a slightly faster pace.
There's no need to finish in exactly seven days — repeat a day if it doesn't feel ready yet. Progress is saved automatically on the device being used.
Day 1
Meet the keyboard
Start with the Keyboard Explorer lesson to get comfortable with where the keys are, with no pressure and no timer.
Day 2
Find home base
Learn the home-row position — resting fingers on F and J, the two keys with a small bump you can feel.
Day 3
Left-hand keys
Practice the keys the left hand reaches from home row.
Day 4
Right-hand keys
Now the right hand's turn — the matching keys on the other side of the keyboard.
Day 5
Two more keys, then play
Add G and H to the mix, then take a playful break — Balloon Pop practices the exact same letters in game form.
Day 6
Put it all together
Home-Row Mix combines everything practiced so far into one lesson.
Day 7
Celebrate and check progress
Take the free typing test to see where things stand today — it's just a snapshot, not a grade. Then keep going with the next lesson whenever ready.
